We are looking for a dynamic and detail-driven Obsolescence & Test Engineer specialising in electronics to deliver cutting-edge solutions for obsolete electronics while performing AS6081-compliant testing to protect clients from counterfeit risks while securing long-term support for high-value systems by providing effective, cost-saving alternatives for at-risk components.

Key Responsibilities

Obsolescence Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate risks related to component and material obsolescence, delivering clear and actionable recommendations to mitigate potential impacts.

Replacement Solutions Analysis: Analyse and qualify replacement components and solutions to ensure compatibility in form, fit, and function.

Obsolescence Data Management: Support the development and upkeep of a comprehensive database tracking obsolescence risks, solutions, and recommendations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering, sales, and production teams to ensure seamless communication and effective resolution of obsolescence challenges.

Innovation and Industry Awareness: Keep abreast of emerging technologies, industry developments, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in obsolescence management strategies.

Component Testing and Inspection: Conduct detailed testing and inspections of electronic components in compliance with AS6081 standards to detect and mitigate counterfeit risks.

Technical Documentation: Develop, review, and maintain test plans, procedures, and reports, ensuring adherence to AS6081 and other relevant standards.

Quality Verification: Perform visual, dimensional, and electrical evaluations to authenticate and validate the quality of electronic components.

Advanced Laboratory Operations: Maintain sophisticated testing equipment, including X-ray machines, scanning electron microscopes (SEM), XRF analysers, and decapsulation tools, to perform thorough laboratory analyses.

Requirements

  • A degree in electronics engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in obsolescence engineering, ideally within the defence, aerospace, or industrial sectors.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electronic components and their applications.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, with a creative approach to addressing complex challenges.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Familiarity with standards such as IEC 62402 (Obsolescence Management) or similar frameworks is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant technical software tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of the AS6081 standard and processes for counterfeit mitigation.
  • Practical experience using advanced test equipment and laboratory techniques for counterfeit component detection.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO 9001 and associated quality management systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, including drawings, datasheets, and specifications for electronic components.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical reporting and team interactions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Adaptable and open to learning, with a proactive attitude toward tackling new challenges.
  • A collaborative team player with a strong commitment to achieving shared goals.
