An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Strategic Sales Manager to join a well-established, UK-based specialist distributor of high-reliability electronic components. With a strong reputation built over decades, the company partners closely with global manufacturers and serves key sectors including defence, aerospace, transportation, and industrial automation. This pivotal role combines senior-level account development with team leadership, sales strategy, and direct customer engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing a high-performing sales team, ensuring a coordinated approach across the business. While a technical or engineering background is not essential, strong product knowledge and the ability to translate that knowledge into commercial success are crucial. This hybrid role offers flexibility to work remotely, yet requires a certain amount of travel to the office.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales Leadership: Provide clear direction and leadership to the external sales team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
- Team Development: Support the ongoing growth of the sales team through regular coaching, training, and performance management, including setting targets and conducting reviews.
- Key Account Management: Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with strategic customers, ensuring high levels of satisfaction, retention, and service delivery.
- Field Sales Oversight: Oversee and support the activities of the external sales team, including territory planning, customer engagement, and new business development.
- Strategic Sales Planning: Develop and implement effective sales strategies to drive long-term growth across core markets such as defence, aerospace, rail, and industrial sectors.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities and emerging markets to support customer acquisition and revenue growth.
- Sales Reporting & Forecasting: Monitor sales performance and pipeline activity, delivering accurate and timely reports and forecasts to the senior leadership team.
- Customer Engagement: Act as a senior representative at customer meetings, supplier reviews, and industry events, supporting high-level negotiations where required.
- Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers to align on shared objectives, drive mutual growth initiatives, and strengthen partnerships.
- Market Insight: Stay informed on industry developments, customer needs, and competitor activity to guide strategic planning and decision-making.
Requirements
- Lead Sales Function: Inspire, manage, and develop the external sales team, promoting a high-performance culture aligned with company objectives.
- Develop Talent: Coach and mentor sales team members, setting clear goals, providing training, and supporting professional growth through regular performance reviews.
- Manage Strategic Accounts: Strengthen relationships with key customers, ensuring exceptional service, customer loyalty, and long-term value.

- Shape Sales Strategy: Design and deliver sales plans that support sustained growth in core sectors such as defence, aerospace, rail, and industrial.
- Drive Growth: Identify emerging markets and lead initiatives to expand the customer base and increase market share.
- Report & Forecast: Monitor sales performance and pipeline development, delivering accurate reports and forecasts to the senior leadership team.
- Represent the Business: Attend key customer meetings, industry events, and supplier reviews, supporting high-level negotiations and commercial discussions.
- Strengthen Supplier Relationships: Collaborate with suppliers to align commercial strategies, drive growth, and maintain strong, productive partnerships.
- Monitor Market Trends: Stay ahead of industry trends, customer demands, and competitor activity to inform future planning and strategic decisions.
