A leading technology manufacturer is seeking an accomplished Head of Engineering to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering function spanning mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and project delivery disciplines. The company designs and manufactures high-performance, mission-critical technology solutions for demanding industrial and regulated environments, with a strong reputation for engineering excellence, quality, and reliability. This senior leadership role takes full ownership of engineering strategy, delivery, and capability development, ensuring the engineering function supports both current operations and long-term business growth within a technically driven, innovation-focused organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and structure the engineering function to deliver high-quality outputs and support future business growth
  • Manage, develop, and motivate multi-disciplinary engineering teams, aligning skills and performance with business objectives
  • Set, track, and report departmental, team, and individual objectives
  • Lead recruitment, training, coaching, performance management, and team culture
  • Manage departmental budgets and ensure effective cost control and resource planning
  • Oversee multiple projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Lead design reviews, technical milestones, feasibility studies, resourcing, and cost estimation
  • Manage project risk, change control, compliance, and customer acceptance
  • Act as technical and architectural authority across the full product lifecycle
  • Ensure designs meet regulatory, quality, and best-practice standards, with a focus on reliability and manufacturability
  • Oversee standardisation, NPI handover, obsolescence management, and outsourced engineering support
  • Support customer engagement, bids, and product strategy, translating requirements into effective solutions
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, quality, and ISO 9001 compliance

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ senior engineering management experience leading multi-disciplinary teams, with a strong record in technical leadership, change management, and project delivery
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, NPI/NPD processes, and operating in ISO 9001 and regulated environments
  • Customer-facing technical background within industrial B2B settings
  • Commercially astute, highly organised, and able to prioritise effectively while influencing at all levels
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills
  • Broad technical knowledge across mechanical, electrical, electronic, and embedded systems, with proficiency in relevant engineering tools
  • Degree in an engineering discipline; professional development, process improvement qualifications, and a full driving licence are advantageous
  • Proactive, resilient, team-oriented leader with high integrity and a continuous improvement mindset
