We are looking for a Group Technical Manager for an established UK electronic components distributor.
This senior opportunity lets you lead and develop the technical function while staying close to customers, suppliers, and new design opportunities. You’ll be responsible for building the technical strategy, developing the team and helping turn design activity into long-term production business and revenue.
A key priority is strengthening the business’s expertise within batteries, power or closely related technologies, so we’re particularly interested in people who can bring genuine technical knowledge in this area alongside experience of design-in, demand creation and design wins.
This would suit an experienced technical leader from the electronic components market who still enjoys being customer-facing, technically hands-on and commercially involved, rather than moving into a purely management-focused position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the technical team, setting clear goals around design opportunities, product development and design wins.
- Build and manage a strong pipeline of design-in opportunities, supporting customers from initial evaluation and testing through to design win and production.
- Work closely with sales, account management and purchasing to provide customers with the right technical and commercial solutions.
- Develop the group’s product and technology strategy, identifying gaps and opportunities to expand the existing supplier and product portfolio.
- Build strong relationships with key manufacturers, managing growth plans, technical projects and regular business reviews.
- Track technical projects and design activity, providing senior management with clear updates on pipeline, progress and results.
- Develop relationships with key decision-makers across customers and suppliers, supporting customer visits, technical meetings and supplier training.
- Provide technical input into product launches, marketing campaigns, webinars, exhibitions and other customer-facing activities.
Requirements
- Manage, support, and develop the technical team, with a clear focus on generating design activity and securing design wins.
- Create and maintain a healthy design pipeline, working with customers from initial product evaluation through to production.
- Partner with sales, account management and purchasing to understand customer requirements and recommend suitable technical solutions.
- Help shape the company’s product strategy, identifying new technologies, product gaps and potential supplier opportunities.
- Work closely with key manufacturers to develop relationships, agree growth plans and review ongoing projects and opportunities.
- Monitor technical projects and provide clear reporting on design activity, opportunities and results.
- Build strong relationships with technical and commercial decision-makers across both customers and suppliers.
- Attend customer meetings, supplier training and industry events where technical support or expertise is required.
- Support new product introductions, technical campaigns, webinars and exhibitions to help create new opportunities.
