An exciting opportunity has become available for a Graduate Applications Engineer to join an established global manufacturer specialising in fibre optic connectivity solutions and technologies.

The successful candidate will work closely with the engineering team in Berkshire, supporting the development, testing and qualification of fibre optic products and applications.

This is a hands-on technical role involving product testing, prototype development, engineering documentation and process improvements, while providing technical support to customers and manufacturing partners.

Working alongside experienced engineers, the successful candidate will gain valuable exposure to new product development, fibre optic assembly processes and technical problem-solving, supporting projects from initial concept through to testing and implementation.

This opportunity would suit a recent Engineering or Science graduate with a strong technical interest, a practical approach to problem-solving and a willingness to develop their knowledge within the fibre optic industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the assembly, testing and development of fibre optic connectors, cables and related products.
  • Carry out fibre optic processes, including stripping, cleaving, crimping, splicing, polishing and connector inspection.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly instructions, product specifications and technical documentation.
  • Assist with developing, testing and improving new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Follow engineering procedures to evaluate product performance, analyse test results and identify areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with engineering teams and manufacturing partners to provide technical support and resolve product or process issues.
  • Support customer product qualifications, trials and technical enquiries.
  • Assist with technical training, product demonstrations and troubleshooting for customers and manufacturing partners.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Knowledge of fibre optic technology, cable assembly or manufacturing processes would be advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Self-motivated, organised and keen to learn new technical skills.
  • Good attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and technical software.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, particularly SolidWorks, would be beneficial.
  • Previous experience with testing equipment or engineering processes would be an advantage.
  • A customer-focused attitude with a willingness to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities.
  • Spanish language skills would be an advantage but are not essential.
