Our client is a well-established, long-standing electronic components distributor with a reputation for technical excellence, integrity, and genuine customer care.

For over three decades, the business has built trusted relationships with customers and suppliers across various sectors. With a strong foundation in the UK and active operations in Asia (Hong Kong/China), the company is positioned for its next stage of strategic growth.

Why This Role Exists

This hire supports a carefully planned succession programme. The incoming Managing Director will assume full P&L and strategic leadership, ensuring smooth continuity while driving new growth opportunities.

You’ll keep day-to-day operations steady, champion the team, and spearhead expansion across adjacent markets, particularly industrial and power electronics.

Key Responsibilities

  • P&L ownership and planning – deliver budgets, forecasts, and cash discipline while setting clear commercial priorities.

  • Market diversification – create and execute a UK go-to-market plan for industrial and power customers, turn potential into repeatable revenue.

  • Sales leadership – remain customer-facing, leverage networks to open new doors, guide the sales team on opportunities, pricing, and margin.

  • Customer and supplier relations – strengthen existing partnerships while developing new principal line relationships.

  • People and culture – lead with empathy, humility, and accountability; foster a collaborative, low-ego environment.

  • International coordination – align with the Hong Kong/China team on design-ins, fulfilment, and commercial strategy.

  • Operational excellence – maintain clean processes around pipeline management, pricing, inventory, and demand planning.

  • Board reporting and succession – provide structured updates and ensure a smooth transition as the founders step back.

Requirements

  • A senior commercial leader from the components distribution, EMS, or OEM environment, comfortable in an SME setting.

  • Technically credible, ideally with an Electronic or Electrical Engineering background and a strong understanding of board-level components (power, semiconductors, passives, ICs, sensors).

  • Proven experience in growing new markets or categories within industrial/power sectors.

  • A calm, collaborative leadership style, confident in decision-making, emotionally intelligent, and values-driven.

  • International coordination experience (Hong Kong/China/Malaysia) is advantageous.

  • Full P&L responsibility in an SME or business unit.

  • Established UK network within industrial/power customers and supplier lines.

  • Strong sales governance (pipeline quality, pricing, forecast accuracy).

  • Practical understanding of operations, inventory, and ISO frameworks.

  • Clear, confident communicator, written and verbal.
